The Wall Street Journal has posted an article on the higher rate of selection of Veterans for business schools in the recent year.

These business schools site respect, teamwork, and discipline among other aspects that appeal to the schools. Particularly the ability of Veterans to bring a wealth of experience into the classroom to enrich discussions.

Credit Suisse Group says “an internal study found that employees with military backgrounds tended to be highly successful due to a sense of discipline and ability to build camaraderie.”

As more experienced Vets leave the service, the work force and the US economy will benefit from their contributions. I hope to see more Veterans being chosen for their abilities to overcome adversity and positively contribute to whatever group they decide to participate in. Of course I have a very subjective opinion.

Awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal in recognition of professional achievements.  Selected Executive Department Junior Sailor of the Year out of a 45-member department.  Observed and analyzed emergency response performance of the base public affairs office with a team of the base’s executive leadership during a regional training exercise.  Increased departmental readiness 30% by designing and administering a program and testing personnel semi-annually.

US Navy Physical Security and Law Enforcement, Sicily, Italy

Developed and implemented a security inspection program, conducting 458 separate unit inspections in one year.  Led a team of three full-time employees and organized volunteers while managing the base’s stray animal program.  Sales and customer service abilities resulted in the placement of 74 animals.  Selected as a Bicycle Patrolman in recognition of leadership and mediation abilities.  Earned professional and on-the-job certifications in half the usual time.
